Hard eared Helmets are mandatory in all racing programs.
BVSC’s racing program is all about fun! With programs for all ages from Nancy Greene to FIS, we’ve got you covered! With early season camps, dryland fitness opportunities, and a comprehensive in season training schedule, our programs provide what you need. The program promotes the love for the sport, develops a passion for ski racing and demands commitment from athletes and their parents.
Tentative teams will be posted at the end of holiday camp for the first day of programs. Teams will be finalized no later than first day of races. Team selection is made by coaches at the conclusion of Holiday Camp and is based on the following criteria: skill, ability, age and team fit.
The process is as follows:
Coaches who spend Holiday Camp and/or previous seasons with a racer will have the greatest input in the team selection process as they will have the most knowledge about that racer’s capabilities and skills. Time trials will be scheduled again this year and make a great ‘first race’ of the season. These times may be used in the decision process to compare racers and establish teams. Team fit is also important as the teams are mixed with a minimum of 2 males or 2 females on each team.
Participant pairing requests will only be considered if all parties involved have submitted in writing (email to jess.bowers@beavervalley.ca) the desire to be together. In the event that there is a skill difference, the better racer will race on the lower team. If a disagreement takes place, the Head Coach will make the final decision. Please take into account that the league program is based on skill development and a team environment rather than on individual results and therefore, the decisions made are in the interest of the team and the program as a whole. Team selection decisions are final and are made by qualified personnel.
The league race schedule is determined by Alpine Ontario (AOA) and is issued early in the New Year. Teams race on 4 weekends during the season, and then K1, K2 and J teams compete in semi-final races in their categories. Not all races are in the escarpment area. The commitment to ski racing will involve some early morning winter driving.
The racing program depends on volunteers. Team managers are required for each level of league racing. Managers keep teams organized, help coordinate rides to away races and play an active role in scoring races and communicating with other parents. Beaver Valley Ski Club’s competitive programs also host a fund-raising gala and auction which requires a number of volunteers to operate smoothly. Parent volunteers help host a racing banquet at the end of the season and a ski swap in the fall. At each race, volunteers are required to fill certain roles, such as gate-keeping, course maintenance, running jackets, scoring and officiating. Refer to your parents’ package for official’s certification dates and times. If you are enrolling your child in racing, please consider your role as a volunteer. All parents are strongly encouraged to become involved. Parents are also encouraged to participate in an official’s certification program so that they are able to understand race formats, rules and volunteer at events. Upon registration you will receive your parents’ package with more information.
