club-slopestyle-poster-5Calling all park skiers and snowboarders! Now is the time to register for BV’s annual Club Slopestyle (Park) Championship. You won’t want to miss BV’s most fun contest of year – it’s got more prizes than any event at the Club! If you ski or ride BV’s Parks, big or small, you can enter.

There are categories for both skiers and snowboarders, and if you ski and snowboard you can enter in both. There are multiple age categories from 6&Under through to 40+ and everything in between for girls and guys.

BV Park Manager/Designer Caleb Bosse will be adding smaller features from Cat’s Meow park to Andy’s Playground for the Slopestyle Championship, so even if you’re just getting started in the Park there will be small features you can ride! All you have to do is be able to ride over the smallest park feature to enter the Club Slopestyle Championship! Note to parents: you can shadow your child down the Slopestyle park course during their run.

You can register this weekend at the registration desk in the lobby beside Senior Member’s Lounge or at Club Office. Cost is $5 for each of Snowboard and Ski – $10 if you want to do both. Please be sure to indicate snowboard or ski or both when you register. Late registration fee will apply after March 12. Bib pick-up will be at The Keg 8:00-9:00am on the day of the event, Sunday March 15.

Slopestyle is a judged event with the emphasis on fun and style. Show-off your best tricks on your choice of park features. The competition will be a fun, free flowing “Jam Format”, one rider at a time. Riders will be organized into pre-assigned age group heats. Heat times will be posted in advance to indicate what time you compete (so you don’t have to wait around all day). Awards at the Clubhouse at the end of the day. Note: helmets and park pass are mandatory.

Prizes by Billabong, Volcom, Quiksilver, Orage, Roxy, Bonfire, Oakley, Anon, Dragon, Scott, DaKine, Vans, Salomon, Burton, K2, Ride, SBC Skier Mag, Snowboard Canada Mag, Skull Candy, Nike 6.0 and many more!

Attn Parents: we’re still looking for a couple more volunteers to assist with morning bib pick-up, starting area, etc. Please email Steve Jarrett: steve@sbcmedia.com if interested.

Last week’s melt and freeze-up delayed completion of the new “Butter Box” addition to the park. With a little cooperation from mother nature, BV’s Park Manager Caleb Bosse and his team should have it firing for this weekend. They also plan to get the “Culvert Hit” back in action, fine tune some of the jumps and add additional smaller features up top in prep for the Club Slopestyle Championship.

bvpark_jam_photo_collage-2-1The weather didn’t cooperate to run last Saturday’s King of the Park Jam on the Butter Box as planned, so we’ll give it another shot this Saturday. It will be a fun one hour sessioning of the Butter Box or another Park feature tba. Check with the Park staff at the Park Entrance on Saturday to get the details and to sign-up in advance. It’s open to all BV skiers and snowboarders who have Park Passes. There will be sticker tosses at the end. Great chance to practice for the Club Slopestyle Championship!

Even though the Park Jam didn’t officially take place last Saturday a bunch of freeskiers had fun sessioning the quarterpipe hit on the side of the Butter Box after it softened up in the afternoon sun. Head freestyle coach Brendan Buchar was boosting some massive ally-oops and others were throwing some fun hand-plants and a few big flairs. Check for photos on the Blog page on BVSC.com.

The pipe was in good shape last weekend despite the deep freeze. In fact the left wall softened up each afternoon for some fun sessioning. A good indication of how much fun the pipe will be once milder spring conditions arrive. Maybe as early as this weekend.

Last weekend was another big one for Canadians with more podiums on international snowboarding and freeskiing stage.

US FREESKIING OPEN, Copper Mtn: Canada’s Justin Dorey won the Pro Superpipe with fellow Canadian Mike Riddle was third! Canada’s Roz Groenewoud was 4th in the Pro Women’s pipe. For photos, story and full results click here: http://sbcskier.com/news?news_id=90&uniqid=132

TTR NISSAN ASIAN OPEN SNOWBOARD, Japan: Canada’s Charles Reid scored 2nd in the Pro Slopestyle, and fellow Canadian Spencer O’Brien finished 4th on the women’s side. For video, photos, story and full results click here: http://snowboardcanada.com/news?news_id=457&uniqid=62

YOU LOOK GOOD SNOWBOARD, Norquay, AB:  Ontario riders podium-ed at the 3rd stop of the You Look Good national slopestyle series at Norquay Resort, Alberta last weekend. Collingwood riders Cassandra Ironside and Scot Brown took first and second in their respective women’s and men’s pro events.  For video, photos, story and full results click here:

The YLG series lands at Blue Mtn this Saturday and BV’s Leanna and Stef King and Chris and John Fellner are planning to compete!
